Real-time translation in communication between teachers, classes, and parents
At St.-Benedikt-Schule in Düsseldorf, an AI-powered translation and transcription tool demonstrates how easy communication can be today: Spoken words are transcribed in real time and can be output in over 70 languages—on tablets or headphones. The pilot project has been running since January 2026 and enables students to truly participate in lessons, as well as seamless communication during conversations with parents.

Requirements Overcoming communication problems, enabling participation
St.-Benedikt-Schule Düsseldorf operates under challenging conditions: varying levels of language proficiency, low parental involvement, and the complex everyday realities of young people in a socially disadvantaged area. In the heterogeneous classes of the international school community, teachers often encountered language barriers—in lessons, during spontaneous exchanges with students, as well as in parent meetings and information evenings.
Additionally, funding for translations in Düsseldorf was cut; interpreters are rarely available.
However, the secondary school views digitalization as a key to self-efficacy and equitable education. A reliable translation solution is an essential component—because participation begins with understanding.
Therefore, a reliable, low-threshold solution was needed that captures spoken words live and immediately translates them into many languages. It should be usable without any prior knowledge.
Solution Real-time translation with transcribby AI
In a pilot project, St.-Benedikt-Schule Düsseldorf uses transcribby AI from Telekom MMS—a AI-based tool for real-time transcription and translation. Spoken language is recognized with minimal delay, displayed as text, and delivered as audio through headphones. This directly overcomes obstacles to understanding. With the help of AI, teachers are empowered to “speak” simultaneously in all the native languages of students and parents, with over 70 languages available. A glossary ensures consistent technical terminology in everyday school life.
transcribby AI runs on tablets in parallel with Smartboard projection in the classroom, is intuitive to use, and is compliant with data protection standards: servers are operated in EU data centers, and data is not stored.
The tool integrates seamlessly into the school’s overall digital concept—tablets, digital learning spaces, and media education frameworks already shape everyday life at St.-Benedikt-Schule. Projects like the Media Scouts and preventive formats such as the “Pausengespräch” also benefit from the immediate accessibility of content.
Benefits Greater educational equity through the use of AI
transcribby AI enables direct participation: Explanations from teachers are immediately understood—in the classroom, in conversations, at parent evenings, and during school events. This overcomes language barriers and can also promote the inclusion of people with hearing impairments.
At the same time, parents feel involved, as they can follow conversations and information in their native language and respond as equals. Feedback becomes immediately comprehensible, which builds trust and strengthens collaboration with the school.
Furthermore, the solution reduces organizational effort: The school becomes less dependent on interpreter services and can conduct conversations flexibly, spontaneously, and without additional resources.
transcribby AI integrates seamlessly into everyday school life: intuitive, practical for daily use, with a low entry threshold, as well as secure and compliant thanks to data processing according to EU law without data storage.
By using the AI solution, St. Benedikt Schule strengthens its profile as a modern educational institution. At the same time, transcribby AI supports the school's central goal of making education more equitable.
